This itinerary covers Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean, two amazing sites located outside the main Angkor area.
1. Banteay Srei – “The Citadel of Women”
• Distance: ~37 km from Siem Reap (~45–60 min by tuk-tuk ).
• Time Needed: 1–1.5 hours to explore.
• Opening Hours: 6:00AM – 6:30 PM.
• Highlights:
• Famous for its intricate pink sandstone carvings—some of the best in Angkor.
• Dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, built in the 10th century.
• Smaller than Angkor temples but extremely detailed.
2. Kbal Spean – “The River of a Thousand Lingas”
• Distance: ~50 km from Siem Reap (~15 km from Banteay Srei).
• Time Needed: 2–3 hours (including the hike).
• Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:30pm Info
• 1.5 km uphill jungle trek (about 30–45 minutes each way).
• Moderate difficulty, with some steep and rocky sections.
• Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
• Highlights:
• Ancient Hindu carvings of lingas (phallic symbols of Shiva), Vishnu, and other deities carved into the riverbed.
• Small waterfall (best in the rainy season, June–October).
