Beng Mealea Temple 

Beng Mealea, often referred to as the “Jungle Temple,” is a sprawling and largely unrestored temple complex enveloped by dense forest, offering visitors a sense of discovery and adventure.


Location: Approximately 66 kilometers northeast of Siem Reap, near the edge of Phnom Kulen National Park. 


Historical Significance:

Era: Constructed in the early 12th century under King Suryavarman II.

Religion: Originally dedicated to Hinduism, with carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

Architecture: The temple’s layout and design are similar to Angkor Wat, suggesting it may have served as a prototype for the more famous temple. 


Visiting Details:

Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM daily. 

Entrance Fee: As of 2025, a single-entry ticket costs $10 USD. Alternatively, access is included with a valid Angkor Pass. 

Time Needed: Allocate approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to explore the temple thoroughly. 


Best Time to Visit:

Early morning visits are recommended for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.

The dry season, from November to April, offers more comfortable conditions for exploration.

Getting There: The journey from Siem Reap takes about 1 to 1.5 hours by Tuk Tuk car 1h to 1h/20mn 

Exploration: The temple remains largely unrestored, with collapsed galleries and towering trees growing amidst the ruins, enhancing its mystical ambiance.

Safety: Due to the temple’s unrestored state, exercise caution when navigating the site.
